Here’s an interesting article on FunnyorDie.com and the migration of comedy to the internet (from the NYTimes.)

Money shot:

“But because of the heavy traffic on FunnyOrDie.com, Sequoia has increased its investment to several million dollars and hired 10 full-time employees, with plans to expand the staff to 25.”

Several million dollars! Full-time employees! For a comedy site!

Pretty cool. Of course this is nothing that new (see CollegeHumor.com and SuperDeluxe.com). I find this whole trend very exciting but am curious how long it can sustain itself. YouTube, the model for most video sites, trades in ALL types of videos; can a comedy-only site have legs or will they also have to expand their “programming”?

I like comedy only sites. I hope they stay true to their vision.
