I stand corrected. I believe my error comes from a misinformed memory. In reading LIVE FROM NEW YORK, Craig Kellem (Carlin’s agent) mentions that Carlin was a great Host and he was surprised he was never invited back. Apparently, Carlin was someone Lorne wasn’t “high on.” Plus the fact that Carlin was stoned to bejeezus, kind of solidified the whole “one host wonder” theory. Although, one wonders if that was still the case, he went back on again in 1984… and that was it. A comedian of his stature certainly would’ve been invited back. Maybe it was Carlin, maybe he didn’t like doing it. Anyone know?
