After MST3K and before CINEMATIC TITANIC, Joel Hodgson and his brother Jim played with a new making-fun-of-movies format called The JollyFilter, where they took older movies, added CGI elements and created new, jolly versions. It’s like what Lucas did with the first three STAR WARS movies, only entertaining.

Here’s what Joel said on the YouTube page:

Jollyfilter was a test I created with my brother, Jim Hodgson in 2000. It is essentually a new way to repurpose pre-existing film.

Jim and I had a development deal with USA networks and because they were a part of Universal, we were able to secure the answer print from the film “Rollercoaster” for this test.

It looked like a lot of fun and the application is pretty limitless. My only question is do you need knowledge of the original film to appreciate the JollyFiltered version? As you’ll see in a moment, knowing what the movie looks like un-JollyFiltered makes the JollyFiltered one that much funnier. Although, the Hodgson boys had a deal with Universal so they certainly had access to more mainstream movies.

Here’s their test posted to YouTube by Joel himself.

Speaking of thinsg related to MST3K and posting to YouTube, someone videotaped the 20th anniversary reunion (moderated by Patton Oswalt) at Comic Con. The image is horrible and in SIX parts, so just listen to the audio and enjoy.
